A provocative post from comedy group Mega64 was interpreted as a possible Sony announcement before the group released a satirical video titled “PS6 Hardware Reveal Trailer.” The episode, reported by Push Square, was not a confirmed PlayStation 6 reveal.
Mega64’s original post on X, published on September 7, said: “We are hearing INSANE leaks that Sony may announce something huge tomorrow. Stay tuned around 10AM PT”. The wording did not identify a product, but its timing and reference to Sony encouraged speculation about an imminent PlayStation announcement.
Mega64 later linked to the video on X. Its premise is deliberately imaginary: the trailer discusses an invisible console, includes a $999 reference, and has a performer say, “That’s the PS6.” The video ends by telling viewers to use their imagination. Its slogan, “No Physical Console. No Physical Limits. Imagine The Possibilities,” also makes the parody clear rather than presenting hardware specifications or a product announcement.
Push Square described the post as leading some users to take the supposed leak at face value and reported that the video had reached 156,000 views at the time of its article. That view count does not establish how many people believed the premise, so claims that a specific number of users were fooled should be treated as an attributed characterization rather than a verified metric.
The joke had a real PlayStation policy change to draw from. In July, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that physical game-disc production for new games released on PlayStation consoles will end from January 2028. The company said games already released, or releasing before then in disc format, are unaffected.
That policy concerns physical game discs, not the manufacture or existence of a physical PS6 console. Sony also continues to sell an attachable disc drive for the PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Pro, with support for discs released before January 2028. No official PS6 hardware announcement is established by the sources available for this report.
